A pair of AMG cars - badged 63 and 65 - will top the facelifted Mercedes SL range when it goes on sale later this year.
The SL63 will be powered by a naturally aspirated 6.3-liter V-8, developing 525-hp and 465 pound-feet of torque. It will accelerate from 0-62 mph in 4.6 seconds and on to a limited top speed of 155 mph.
It's the first Mercedes get the new AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed twin-clutch sports transmission. It's fitted with four drive modes - Comfort, Sport, Sport Plus and Manual - a double-declutching and Race Start function. It's designed for high torque and maximum revs up to 7200 rpm. At the heart of it lies a wet start-up clutch, which runs in an oil bath and replaces the previous torque converter.
However, the flagship car in the SL range will be the new SL65 AMG, featuring a 612-hp 6.0-liter twin-turbo V-12 delivering 738 pound-feet of torque. It hits 62 mph in just 4.2 seconds, with the top speed again limited to 155 mph. The five-speed automatic transmission has three drive modes; a multi-disc limited-slip differential to give optimum traction.
Both cars get the new-look front end with more pronounced wedge shape, black-painted radiator grille, larger cooling air intakes, and lower transverse fin painted in black. Bi-xenon headlamps with dark surrounds, and set-back round fog lamps. The doors have been reshaped and feature LED indicators. The AMG bodystyling also includes side skirts and rear apron with black diffusor insert. The vario-roof opens in 16 seconds and is also available in an optional glass version.
